Traditionally, Apple Mac computers have been – for the most part – immune to viruses and spyware. Perhaps this was the case because Macs comprised a smaller share of the market than their Windows counterparts. But as the popularity of OSX continues to grow, the risk of an attack by a malware virus will also increase.

In anticipation of such a threat, Steve Jobs and his team have incorporated a defense into the new Snow Leopard operating system. Under older versions every time a user tried to open any file that was an internet download, a warning would pop up and ask if they really wanted to open that file. The user was given the choice to confirm or cancel.

Under Mac OSX 10.6 the downloaded file is now compared to a list of malicious software. If the file is infected the user gets a warning telling them as much and is given the option to abort the operation. Currently, the list of trojans is very short but will be kept up to date by Apple.

This built in malware protection feature is another good reason to make the Snow Leopard upgrade.

Comparative cost of data recovery.

You only have to do a quick search on Google for Data recovery to get a true glimpse of how competitive an arena this particular sector of the IT industry actually is, and if you dig a little deeper it becomes very apparent to the trained eye the tactics and strategies many companies go to, to capture the market the latest of which is cost comparison websites.

Site offering customers a cross section of competitive pricing have been around for years and are really useful to find the best internet or even street price of a particular product.

Doing a cost comparison is reasonably easy especially if you are comparing out of the box products, and /or you have a number of manufacturers or suppliers that are happy to supply their best price to the comparison website.

So how can you possible do a cost comparison website when it comes to a service without first establishing the actual problem in the first place. Also if other data recovery companies are not happy to sign up to such a service even if you could conceivably do a fair comparison, how could it it be fair if the very industry that is being compared does not buy into the concept of services cost comparison websites, and indeed why should they?

The big loser here will of course be the customer who will no doubt be pretty desperate to find a solution and get their data back especially if it is business data or treasured family photo’s or other important information. They will be led to believe they are getting the best price based on independent data when quite the opposite is true.

Most reputable data recovery companies will of course not wish to see customers put in this situation.

I don’t think any recovery expert would disagree that there is simply is not a one solution fits all approach to data recovery, and assessment of the facts can be indeed dictate the actually recovery procedure that actually takes place if you want to have the best chance of full data recovery.

Product comparison websites are here to stay and in most cases offer a fair and reasonable cost comparison where most industry businesses subscribe, but even product comparison sites are starting to crack as the big players pull their support in favor of supplying an truly independent quote …..their own.

Product comparison websites of data recovery services simply will never be accurate as not enough details are known upfront and actual solutions can be too varied so these comparison sites should be avoided or taken with a big dose of salt.
